OYSTER is a new swimwear line that is designed and produced in Brooklyn, New York. Combining classic vintage silhouettes with modern elements, designers Bianca Linder and Francess Jaen create unique and well-crafted swimsuits with unexpected color combinations. The company pushes boundaries in subtle ways, finding balance between timeless shapes and quirky details. The designs are all about combining the femme fatale with the tomboy, taking inspiration from nature, culture and even the seemingly mundane.
The OYSTER brand grew out of the collective imaginations of two inspired yet unfulfilled project managers. It began with obsessive instant messaging, conspiring, dreaming and researching of all things artful, vintage, whimsical and cleverly designed, as a way to escape the doldrums of working 9 to 5. It comes from an appreciation of the old and an unyielding quest for the new. Bianca and Francess never want to take themselves too seriously and encourage creativity, traveling whenever possible, continual learning, and taking chances. You can often find them gardening, biking, cooking, doodling and obsessing over how many more things in the world still need some attention.
Bianca has worked in advertising print production for the past 5 years, and more recently has been working simultaneously toward a design degree at FIT. She has taken her attention to detail and technical know how from the ad world and turned it to focus on technical design and patternmaking to achieve a perfect fit. She learned to sew at an early age and was influenced by her German mother's DIY attitude and 60s wardrobe. She wants women to feel comfortable and confident in their clothes.
Francess has roots in advertising and switched paths to fashion in 2007, when she began working for Tracy Feith as an intern. She quickly got involved in the company and went on to manage production and help merchandise his boutiques. Francess was also influenced by a strong woman in her family, her grandmother who was a seamstress and a visual perfectionist. She is attracted to wild patterns, off-kilter color combinations, and revels in pushing the boundaries of personal style.
