Lands' End and SELF Magazine Launch Second Annual National Swimsuit Confidence Week

In an effort to help women boost swimsuit confidence and join in summer fun, Lands' End in conjunction with SELF Magazine is hosting the second-annual National Swimsuit Confidence Week just prior to Memorial Day weekend from May 21 – 25, 2012. The duo are partnering with the Curvy Girl Guide (www.curvygirlguide.com) and Beyond the Boobie Trap (www.beyondtheboobietrap.com) communities to bring the 2012 Swimwear Campaign to life for the second year. The weeklong movement was created last year to celebrate women of all shapes and sizes as to well as educate and inspire them to embrace their confidence and beauty and to have fun this summer.

"Last year, we were inspired and amazed by the women who embraced their swimsuit beauty and participated in National Swimsuit Confidence Week," said Erin McCormick, swimwear merchandise manager, Lands' End. "The campaign is an amazing example of how Lands' End helps millions of women discover their swimsuit confidence by finding beautiful swimwear styles designed to fit properly and flatter while providing personal levels of coverage."

To kick off the week, the 21 Curvy Girl writers along with more than 20 breast cancer survivors from Beyond the Boobie Trap will inspire women across the country by posing and posting photos at www.facebook.com/landsend in their 2012 Lands' End swimsuit. An editor from SELF Magazine will join the movement by posting confidence photos on Self.com to help inspire women everywhere.

As part of the National Swimsuit Confidence campaign, Lands' End and SELF Magazine are offering a chance to win a three-night trip for two to Hilton Head Island, SC. Between now and May 28, 2012, simply go to www.facebook.com/LandsEnd and enter the sweepstakes at the "Swim Confidence" tab. One grand prize winner, chosen at random, will win round-trip airfare for two, a three-night stay at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa as well as a variety of "confidence-to-go experiences" ranging from biking on the beach, kayaking and paddle boarding to Heavenly Spa Treatments, dining al fresco at Carolina Cafe and dinner at Oceans.

Flipping for Flip Flops

Made for girls and guys, Hari Mari is a hue-driven and comfort-focused flip flop line, constructed with versatility in mind. Each pair boasts rich and colorful designs, in tandem with memory foam-lined toe pieces, firm arch supports and soft-squeeze mid-soles, making Hari Mari flip flops an easy fit for wearing on-the-go in the city, at rest on the beach or anywhere in between. The debut 'Parks' line features crisp white hemp foot beds under a variety of brightly-colored cotton-blend straps, including oranges, blues, greens and grays, to name a few, bringing this season's trends to the casual wardrobe while also creating a classic, design-forward option for any flip flop enthusiast.

Based in Dallas, Hari Mari was started by flip flop fanatics Jeremy Stewart and Barrett Horton who searched for more colorful and comfortable flip flop designs with little success. "When looking for a nice flip flop that offered a little more than your traditional brown or black look proved repeatedly unsuccessful, we decided to develop and create our own line," says Stewart, Hari Mari's founder. "We designed Hari Maris to be crisp, timeless and super comfortable, creating a color-injected line for people on-the-go who want a quality-made flip flop as unique as themselves." Along with their classic aesthetics, Hari Mari flip flops are made responsibly and built with sustainable hemp fibers, reprocessed foam and recycled rubber to reduce their overall environmental impact.

What Bikini.com thinks is extra cool about Hari Mari is that they're donating $3 for every pair of flip flops purchased to help kids with pediatric cancer secure treatments & medicines vital to their fight. Hari Mari currently partners with Cook Children's Medical hospitals and looks to expand to additional hospitals and treatment centers in a variety of regions as the line & brand grows.

Sneak peek at biKa's new swimwear collection for 2012, shot in India

biKa Swimwear specializes in finely embroidered and sequined swimsuits and coverups hand made by talented craftsmen in India who have inherited this skill through several generations. Each exquisite piece is one of a kind.

Beautiful Ambika Sanjana, the designer behind the line, tells us that biKa's Spring/Summer Rajputani 2012 collection is inspired by the vibrant culture of the desert state of Rajasthan, India. To offset the arid climate, the Rajasthani culture celebrates bold color, opulent fabrics, and royal embellishments. bika’s new collection incorporates the traditional technique of block printing and dyeing, strengths of this region, with modern design and elements. This collection echoes the style of the Rajputani woman: brazen, elegant and glamorous for the contemporary stylish woman. Ambika sent Bikini.com some exclusive "hot off the press" shots straight from biKa's photo shoot in India...here's a first look at the stunning photos and equally stunning collection. Shakalaka baby!

Sunglasses fit for the beach from Maui Jim

Maui Jim began as one guy selling sunglasses on the beaches of Maui, Hawaii, back in the early 1980s. As local demand grew for sunglasses that provided advanced protection from the severe glare and UV rays of the Hawaiian sun – without distorting the beautiful colors of the Islands – the company developed proprietary technology – PolarizedPlus, which was later patented and subsequently enhanced to create the company’s newest technology, PolarizedPlus2. Up until 1991, the sunglasses were exclusively sold in Maui, Hawaii (we actually got some pairs during a high intensity beach swimsuit photo shoot.) The company subsequently expanded and today the company is the fastest growing polarized sunglass maker in the world.

Now Maui Jim is branching out into some snazzy new designs to house those famous lenses. If you're a fan of artist Guy Harvey's distinctive craft, or just passionate about fishing or the underwater world, check out the new collectible sunglasses featuring the artwork of Guy Harvey on the inner and outer temples.

Or, if you're more of a college spring-breaker, Maui Jim is also introducing some new college-branded glasses for 11 universities around the U.S.. The line lets you celebrate your loyalty by sporting your school’s colors. Glasses are available at participating college bookstores or optical stores around participating universities: University of Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, University of Florida, University of Georgia, University of Michigan, Louisiana State, University of Miami, University of Tennessee and University of Texas at Austin. We have to admit we're a little partial to University of Miami (Bikini.com's new hometown) but we think they're all pretty cool.

Great Moments in Bikini History -- Happy 65th Birthday of the Bikini

This is the week that started it all. On July 5, 1946, Louis Reard debuted his two-piece swimsuit design on model and dancer Micheline Bernardini at the popular Piscine Molitor in Paris. He named it the "bikini" after the U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean that week. 65 years later, the bikini is still beloved by men and women around the world.
