NEXT Swimwear teams up with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for NEXT National SUP Day

Everyone -- including Bikini.com's Art Director -- is into Stand Up Paddling (SUP) these days. Surfing's new sister sport is now an emerging global sport -- and one swimwear company is taking it to a whole new level.

NEXT Swimwear – known for integrating swim, fitness, and fashion – has announced that it has teamed up with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) to declare June 10th NEXT National SUP Day. The 2012 NEXT Swimwear Collection features silhouettes and styles perfect for the active woman who enjoys SUP and outdoor water activities. For the past three years, NEXT has closely aligned with CFF and is excited to partner with the organization to promote this special day. The inaugural NEXT National SUP Day will be highlighted with events held in Newport Beach, CA, New York, Chicago, Minneapolis and Orlando. At each event, professional and avid stand up paddlers will hold free clinics for children afflicted with CF as well as for the general public.

For the 2012 swim season, NEXT Swimwear launched a national awareness effort for the Cystic Fibrosis Pipeline to a Cure Program. Throughout the season, a percentage of NEXT sales are donated to CFF. Also, NEXT hangtags and associated point-of-purchase materials promote how ocean activities like surfing and SUP provide a healing effect for CF patients. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). About five years ago, researchers in Australia discovered that kids with CF who surf had healthier lungs than those who didn’t. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation funded research for a hypertonic saline treatment that mimics a “surf session.” Today more than 70,000 people who suffer from CF around the world experience the healing effects of the ocean during treatments in their own homes.

The events will feature free Stand Up Paddle demonstrations and special appearances by professional SUP athletes. For more information about local events or to arrange a SUP Day event in your community, please visit www.NationalSUPday.com.

Flipping for Flip Flops

Made for girls and guys, Hari Mari is a hue-driven and comfort-focused flip flop line, constructed with versatility in mind. Each pair boasts rich and colorful designs, in tandem with memory foam-lined toe pieces, firm arch supports and soft-squeeze mid-soles, making Hari Mari flip flops an easy fit for wearing on-the-go in the city, at rest on the beach or anywhere in between. The debut 'Parks' line features crisp white hemp foot beds under a variety of brightly-colored cotton-blend straps, including oranges, blues, greens and grays, to name a few, bringing this season's trends to the casual wardrobe while also creating a classic, design-forward option for any flip flop enthusiast.

Based in Dallas, Hari Mari was started by flip flop fanatics Jeremy Stewart and Barrett Horton who searched for more colorful and comfortable flip flop designs with little success. "When looking for a nice flip flop that offered a little more than your traditional brown or black look proved repeatedly unsuccessful, we decided to develop and create our own line," says Stewart, Hari Mari's founder. "We designed Hari Maris to be crisp, timeless and super comfortable, creating a color-injected line for people on-the-go who want a quality-made flip flop as unique as themselves." Along with their classic aesthetics, Hari Mari flip flops are made responsibly and built with sustainable hemp fibers, reprocessed foam and recycled rubber to reduce their overall environmental impact.

What Bikini.com thinks is extra cool about Hari Mari is that they're donating $3 for every pair of flip flops purchased to help kids with pediatric cancer secure treatments & medicines vital to their fight. Hari Mari currently partners with Cook Children's Medical hospitals and looks to expand to additional hospitals and treatment centers in a variety of regions as the line & brand grows.

Can you handle the curves of Sports Illustrated Supermodel Tori Praver (we mean it literally)...

Admiring the curves of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model is one thing, but automaker Lexus is actually letting you drive it. As the Official Automotive Marketing partner of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit property, Lexus has created the TORI 500, showcasing an actual racetrack the automaker created in the shape of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Tori Praver’s body. Professional race car driver Scott Pruett and professional stunt driver Greg Tracy show that handling a swimsuit model's curves isn't as easy as it looks (well Bikini.com staffers could have told you that as well.)

You can check out the the Tori500 iPhone app at http://www.Lexus.com/Tori500.

Great Moments in Bikini History -- Happy 65th Birthday of the Bikini

This is the week that started it all. On July 5, 1946, Louis Reard debuted his two-piece swimsuit design on model and dancer Micheline Bernardini at the popular Piscine Molitor in Paris. He named it the "bikini" after the U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean that week. 65 years later, the bikini is still beloved by men and women around the world.

"Swimware" for geeks -- the new solar powered bikini

Andrew Schneider, a designer based in Brooklyn, NY, has designed a bikini capable of charging your cellphone, your mp3 player or even your camera -- using solar power. This high-tech swimsuit is covered in 1" x 4" photovoltaic panels and features a 5 Volt USB port. It is custom made by hand and sells for $500 and up (but just think of all the money you'll save on your utility bill!) You can even swim in it -- just unplug your devices before jumping in.

We were thinking of having some of our Bikini.com models pose in some solar powered bikinis -- but even without solar panels, they're already hot enough to power a hybrid car.

Endless Summer for your own beach party

endless summer

If you ever come to the Bikini.com studio, you'll see one movie poster in a very prominent position -- the one for "The Endless Summer". The movie debuted in 1964, and it became the first authentic surfing movie to achieve mainstream success. The film follows two California surfers, Hynson and August, as they hit road in search of the perfect wave, and it chronicles their adventures around the world as they look for the wildest surf. We've always loved the very cool design of that poster.

Now Social Butterfly Designs has announced the launch of an exclusive new line of note cards and stationery featuring the iconic surf images of "The Endless Summer". Using the colorful original design elements combined with classic images from the groundbreaking 1964 film, the just-released stationery collection will be great for beach party invitations, as gifts for surfing fans, or to add a touch of fun and sun to everyday correspondence. The centerpiece of the collection is the globally recognized "3 Surfers Silhouette" image of filmmaker Bruce Brown and the two stars of his film, surfers Robert August and Mike Hynson. All items can be personalized and are available from the Social Butterfly Designs website.

"'The Endless Summer' really put surfing culture on the map, and these items are designed particularly for people who appreciate the rich history and tradition of this popular film and what it represents," said Jill Biggins Gerbracht, Social Butterfly Designs Founder and CEO. "We've enjoyed bringing these classic images to a new life through this collection."
